The Epidemic of Loneliness

I used collage of vintage photos to juxtapose the past and present. Often, we look back at the past as a time of connection prior to smartphones and the present isolation that comes with technological advancement. So, to create this juxtaposition, I removed the sense of “connection” from multiple images, removing the people from the group picture (cover), the baby from the woman’s arms (23) and the patient from the doctors’ hands (18).

This infiltration of the present into the past is supposed to feel eerie for readers.

In this edition – for the first time – I didn’t use Procreate to design the cover story, and instead honed my analog design and Adobe skills. I scanned in linocut prints that I created of a band-aid (18), the word “objectified” (18) and the outlet spark (23).
