Nice to meet you!

My name is Celia Brown and I am co-Editor-in-Chief of the Pleasant Valley Spartan Shield.

Last year, I pursued my interest in design by joining the publication staff as Design Editor. I enjoyed using design to communicate emotions to readers, taking my art skills from the canvas to the computer. I was able to use my interest in art to serve a greater purpose and comment on topics like political tensions and the female experience.

So, as co-Editor-in-Chief this year, I have made sure to put more emphasis on design – cover story and beyond.

To do this, I’ve held a design crash course session, introduced new design opportunities for extra points and worked closely with the Design Editor; my co-Editor-in-Chief and I have also made the conscious decision to incorporate more two page spreads and sidebar designs into each edition.

For me, this meant more freedom for exploration.

I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with analog design, collage, 3D programming and the Adobe Suite, as well as building upon the Procreate and Canva skills that I started developing last year.

My portfolio this year is a culmination of my year-long process of finding the correct balance between two relationships: text and design, clarity and experimentation. Enjoy!
